The fast charging cable (Mode 3) for public AC charging offers full flexibility and lets you quickly charge your fully electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid vehicle. Thanks to its length of five metres, it is easy to use at public charging stations.
Benefits of the Multifunction Charger.
The Multifunction Charger lets you charge your vehicle when out and about. When used with the appropriate Mode 3 adapter, you can use it at any public AC charging station with a power output of up to 11 kW. The 6-metre cable gives you plenty of room to park at the charging station. You can also charge your vehicle at home using the adapter supplied.

Intelligent charging flap.
The intelligent charging flap of your new BMW iX3 makes charging simpler and easier. The flap opens automatically as soon as your vehicle detects that you wish to charge. Once you have removed the charging plug, the flap closes automatically after a few seconds.
Spacious storage compartment under the bonnet.
You can store the Multifunction Charger and associated adapters in the spacious 40-litre storage compartment under the bonnet of your new BMW iX3. The storage compartment can also be used for the fast charging cable (Mode 3) for public AC charging and the tyre repair kit Plus, for example.

You will reach your destination more quickly with routes optimised for charging. Get in your car and choose your destination as usual – the navigation does the rest. You’ll see the fastest route straight away, including the best possible charging stops along the way.

Problems and solutions.
Even though the vehicle still has enough range, I am directed to a charging point before my destination.
Here, the remaining charge that you wish your car to still have on reaching your destination is probably defined in the settings. If you know that you’re going to charge at your destination in any case, you can individually change this in the settings.
I don’t see any charging stops along the route.
There can be various reasons for this. Either you are offline or the charge-optimised routes feature is disabled. However, it’s also possible that, based on your settings and the remaining range, you will reach your destination without having to charge at all.
The navigation wants to charge my EV twice along the route, instead of charging it fully just once.
The vehicle always calculates the fastest route to your destination, automatically scheduling the best charging stops. It often makes sense, in terms of time, to factor in several stops and only partially charge the electric vehicle battery.
I can’t detach the charging cable from the charging post.
Slight resistance is completely normal. First unlock the cable and then pull it firmly to release it.

How can I find a suitable charging station on the go?
You can filter search results for alternating current (AC), direct current (DC) and high-power charging (HPC) stations using BMW Maps in your car's navigation system or via the "Maps" tab in your My BMW App4.You'll immediately see details about the charging stations, including the number of charging points, charging power and availability. Further details, including photos and reviews of the charging station, opening hours and on-site amenities, such as toilets or restaurants, are also displayed.
How can I access the public charging network?
When you get the key to your BMW electric car, you will also be given access to the world of BMW Charging6, in the form of your BMW Charging Card and the exclusive and attractive conditions in the BMW Charging network that come with it.
You can easily register via the My BMW App4 once you have linked your vehicle. Book the Active tariff with your new BMW and activate your BMW Charging Card. In less than 24 hours, you'll be activated for the extensive public charging network and will be ready to charge! Simply and conveniently manage your charging processes via BMW Charging. You'll receive an overview of the costs of all charging processes along with your monthly invoice. The invoice can be provided via the online portal or by email, as you prefer.
It is worthwhile obtaining an IONITY Plus package for all fully electric BMW vehicles5. It lets you charge at attractive rates at IONITY high-power charging stations across Europe (offer depends on the market).
